Tom has competed in every Red Bull X-Alps edition since 2007 so this would have been his tenth race. Only a handful of athletes have the mental and physical willpower to handle the world’s toughest adventure race for such a long time.
Tom is doing many different sports since he is involved in numerous exciting projects, but last year his training was limited because for much of 2024 he was battling complications from a snow kiting injury. That’s why he announced today that he cannot be at the Red Bull X-Alps start line this year.
“This would’ve been my tenth edition, which I was extremely excited about, but my recovery is taking longer than expected. Together with my team and the doctors we decided that it would not be safe to be at the start line this year,” Tom explains. "All together I went through nine different surgeries and now it seems that the infection is gone and the bone is finally healing. But obviously I'm not able to train and if you take part in Red Bull X-Alps you want to take it seriously."
I see it as an opportunity to see the race from a new perspective
However, he will not be fully absent from this year’s race, it’s just too big of a passion for him. “I will be there because I want to see the athletes racing. I see it as an opportunity to see the race from a new perspective. I will be telling the stories that are happening backstage and support the teams on-site,” he says.
He knows the race inside out and we are happy that he will share his knowledge with us and the athletes and we cannot wait to see him back in 2027 for his tenth Red Bull X-Alps!
